We’re getting into the business end of Rogers Cup in Canada and twenty-four year old Romanian fifth seed Simona Halep is carrying on some fine form following on from her title win in Bucharest. She defeated tall Czech Karolina Pliskova 6-3 6-3 in just over an hour recording an impressive 73% first serve percentage.
Halep seems to have put her tailspin of a first half of the season well and truly behind her and is beginning to recapture the kind of form that saw her reach the final at Rolland Garros two years ago. Her next challenge is a tough match up against either two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova or former French and US open winner and tour veteran Svetlana Kuznetsova. With Serena and Muguruza out of the draw, Halep might fancy herself for the Rogers Cup title, players such as Kerber, Radwanska, Venus and Keys all remain in the running.
